claim it.

Last night I had the incredible opportunity and absolute privilege to speak at my women’s bible study. {I still can’t believe that I am speaking again after two long years, thank you Lord!}  Our topic for this semester is {The Unspoken Word: Insecurity} and last night I talked about how the world instigates our insecurity.  Personally, this {long, hard, challenging, heart wrenching} journey of overcoming my insecurities has truly been absolutely life changing.  In this process I have not only had to admit my insecurities {out loud} but finally surrender my pride and hand my emotional baggage over to God.  I am telling you, surrendering my insecurities, my fears, my hurts and my brokenness to God has been the best decision of my life {other than accepting Christ as my Savior of course.}

In the past few weeks, as I have been preparing the message that I was going to speak to these women, I found myself in awe of how many of us {and by us I mean young women…especially Christian women} don’t know the power we have in Christ.  We are so unaware of his authority over the universe and the victory that is and always will be, his.  Even more than that, we completely miss out on the fact that as soon as we invite Christ into our lives, we share in his authority and victory.  It is somewhat sad to me that after 24 years of a Christian life, I can now say with confidence that I am just beginning to fully grasp the favor that I have as a child of God.

It is so beyond heart breaking that women are walking day in and day out {many as Christians already} without a shred of knowledge of the power that they have with Christ in them.  When it comes to our battles with insecurity this lack of knowledge will literally ruin us.  As we go through life, Satan is constantly on the attack, ready to take us down for the count at every single moment. He wants to paralyze our progress, steal our confidence, shatter our dreams and wipe out our purpose; and to achieve that, he will fight dirty.  He will attack every area of our lives, especially the areas where we are the weakest. {that is where our insecurities become our pressure points that Satan places a big, fat bulls eye on}  One profound lesson that I have learned in this journey of conquering my insecurities is that in order to win the battle against my insecurity, I have to win the battle against Satan.

The beautiful thing is that Satan has already been declared the “loser”. The victory has always and will always belong to God because of the sacrifice of his Son.

Therefore, because I belong to God, I will always be victorious

I love this truth about our identity in Christ.  I love the power that comes from that claim.  I love the authority and confidence that we can live out, simply because we are his.

Last night we looked closely at a scripture that displayed this perfect truth. {for the whole scripture click here}

“Next the devil took him to the peak of a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory.  “I will give it all to you,” he said, “if you will kneel down and worship me.”  “Get out of here, Satan,” Jesus told him. “For the Scriptures say, ‘You must worship the Lord your God and serve only him.’” Then the devil went away, and angels came and took care of Jesus.”

{matthew 4:8-11}

It is absolutely astounding to me the sovereign supremacy that Jesus shows in this verse.  Satan came to Jesus, guns blazing, lies in full force and an enticing reward dangling before him, tempting Jesus into sin.

And Jesus’ response?

“Get out of here, Satan.” And then, Satan went away.

Satan couldn’t stay in any place that Jesus cast him out of.  Satan can’t dwell in a place that God banishes him from.  Because Christ has the victory, he has supreme authority! Therefore, when Jesus says, “Satan, L.E.A.V.E”, he. must. leave.  That’s final.

As young women {and men too, of course} who are part of the kingdom of God, we must take our place as part of God’s victory! We must claim the authority that Christ gives us to defeat Satan’s petty attempts to ruin our purpose, our present, our passion and our future!

We can defeat Satan’s lies {especially those exposed within our deepest insecurities} when we use the authority that we have been given by God to literally tell him off!  He has already been defeated, he already knows who is victorious, now we have to claim that authority in the battle field of our mind and heart!

I have learned throughout the past few years, and especially the past few months, the power that comes from telling Satan off.  As soon as his lies start creeping in, as soon as I know he is trying to sweep my entire day off track and push my insecure button, I will literally yell {out loud if possible…and by possible I mean if I’m not in a public place where people can hear and be kinda weirded out…}, “Get out of here Satan”. {or in the words of Joyce Meyer, “I’m not comin’ to this tea party Satan!”}

At that moment, I’ve claimed my victory for Christ.  In that moment, I can claim back control to defeat the lies that Satan is so cleverly trying to make me believe.  In that moment, I have taken back my freedom. In that moment, I have taken my first step toward defeating my insecurity.

You have the authority of Jesus Christ within you.  You have the authority and power to accept Satan’s lies or cast him away.  Take your place in Jesus Christ with all the authority that he wants to give you. Start claiming the power that you have as a child of God. And start putting up a fight to claim back your security.

The victory is already ours.

Now all we have to do is claim it.

“So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” {james 4:7}
